The Soul Urn, also called Spirit Urn, Soul Jar, Spirit Jar or Idol, is a delivery objective. It first spawns at 10 minutes beside the yellow-lane bridge, then alternates between yellow and green every five minutes. It descends for 12.5 seconds before it can be picked up with a light or heavy melee. Its destination is on the opposite side of the map.

If unclaimed for three minutes, it walks toward the destination via the Mid-Boss stairs, reaching roughly halfway before the next spawn; a player can still pick it up. If picked up before the next spawn, that spawn waits until delivery or expiration. Value is locked when the urn spawns, not when delivered.

Carrying and dropping

The courier gains +2 m/s move speed, capped at 15 m/s, +1 stamina, +10% dash distance, +25% stamina regeneration and 100% slow resistance. A courier on the trailing team also gains up to +5 m/s sprint speed and Bullet, Spirit and Debuff Resist, scaling to maximum at a 15% team net-worth deficit. The maximum resist starts at 10%, rising one percentage point per minute to 40% at 30 minutes.

The courier cannot parry, use ziplines or teleporters, or enter vents as Rem, Rat King, Ava-form Calico or Burrowing Mo & Krill. Entering a Doorman door drops the urn at the entrance. Mirage’s Traveler, Rem’s Tag Along, Sinclair’s Spectral Assistant teleport and Viscous’s Goo Ball also cause a drop. Enemy-player or NPC light/heavy melee, melee-damage abilities and any stun force a drop. The urn speaks audibly to nearby players every six seconds.

If not delivered within 45 seconds of pickup, its value decays over the following 45 seconds to zero, when it expires; the delivery text turns red and counts down.

Rewards

The bounty is 250 souls plus 70 per minute of game time at spawn. Delivery releases deniable soul orbs. If not denied, the courier receives the souls; an ally who confirms an orb shares its value with the courier. A trailing courier gets an additional bounty based on time and deficit. The courier also gains four random permanent buffs:

Stat Level 1, 0 min Level 2, 10 min Level 3, 30 min
Fire Rate +1.5% +2% +2.5%
Max Ammo +3% +5% +7%
Cooldown Reduction +0.5% +0.75% +1%
Weapon Damage +3% +4% +6%
Max Health +15 +20 +30
Spirit Power +2 +3 +4
Bullet Resist +0.5% +0.75% +1%
Spirit Resist +0.5% +0.75% +1%
Move Speed +0.1 m/s +0.2 m/s +0.3 m/s
Ability Range +0.25% +0.5% +0.75%

Each standard type has a 10% drop rate; Health has 20%, Move Speed and Ability Range 5% each. A pseudo-random distribution reduces the chance of repeated types and considers buffs received from all sources.

Character and history

The urn’s name is Earnest. It is a New York Municipal Coven civil servant that captures rogue spirits for release elsewhere. It takes pride in its work, knows Billy and has encountered an attempted theft by a member of the Paradox Organization. It has a cousin working as a Columbia University administrative shredder, and its usual craftsman is on vacation. It admires the delivery style or appearance of several heroes, including Doorman, Lady Geist, Celeste, Ivy, Bebop, Dynamo, Infernus, Mina, Shiv, Victor and Vindicta.

The command citadel_force_spawn_idol spawns an urn. If Doorman uses Hotel Guest on a courier who then drops it, the urn can reappear in a room beside the Archmother’s Blue Walker. In Neon Prime it was the Idol and was delivered to the Center Temple. A brief 2024 experiment used the Mid Temple. A May 22, 2026 deficit-resistance rework was reverted May 28; the source connects this cautiously to a tournament strategy manipulating the deficit with Golden Goose Eggs. A June 4 capture-point rework was separated into Unstable Rift on June 30. July 9 reduced courier speed bonuses, increased stamina recovery and made the urn speak more frequently and audibly.
