Troopers are team creeps that arrive on ziplines, push lanes and provide souls. Their transport vessel can be shot down to make them land early. They attack enemy Troopers, heroes and structures. Amber Troopers have candle heads; Sapphire Troopers have lamp heads. Their visible damage changes with health.

Initially a wave contains three ranged and one medic; after five minutes it contains two ranged, one melee and one medic. Waves spawn every 30 seconds until 20 minutes, every 25 seconds from 20 to 35, and every 20 seconds thereafter. Parrying a Trooper stuns it without resetting the player’s parry cooldown or ending the parry early.

Ranged Troopers use a ranged weapon and melee at close range. Melee Troopers first appear after five minutes. Medic or Banner Troopers carry a health-marked banner and drop a pack when killed. An enemy player must pick it up; its own team cannot. The pack heals allied heroes within 35 m for 13% of each hero’s missing health + (150 + 2 per match minute) / number of nearby heroes. It also heals Troopers a small amount. Pickup range increases from 18 m at ten minutes to 30 m at eighteen.

Opponent Trooper damage output, DPS Trooper damage resistance
Players 28 −25%
Troopers 35 42.5%
Guardians 14.4 0%
Walkers 24 80%
Base Guardians 80 67.5%

The player-specific resistance applies against bullet, not melee, damage. Troopers reach 20% spirit resistance at 25 minutes and 70% at 50 minutes; they gain 35% damage resistance near or in the enemy base and 50% health at 35 minutes. Their sight range is 41 m against NPCs and 25 m against heroes. Out-of-combat regeneration is 7 health per second.

Souls

Each Trooper is worth 100 souls plus 2 per minute. A non-melee kill creates a ground orb for 50% and a confirmable or deniable flying orb for 50%. A melee kill grants the full value immediately and creates no orbs. Shares for nearby allied players are:

Players Share each Total
1 100% 100%
2 54% 108%
3 36% 108%
4 25% 100%
5 20% 100%
6 16% 96%

Super and Rift Troopers

Destroying a Shrine upgrades allied Troopers in its lane, and blue-lane Troopers after either Shrine falls, for the rest of the match. They gain 60% damage and 40% health and yield 15% less bounty to enemies. In Street Brawl, Troopers upgrade at three-minute overtime.

Capturing an Unstable Rift sends at least five larger black Rift Troopers down that lane; they drop no souls. A trailing winner can receive up to nine extra, scaling with its deficit. The first Rift gives them +100% health and damage, 25% Melee Resist and 30% Spirit Resist compared with normal Troopers. Successive Rifts add 20 percentage points of health/damage bonus to a maximum 160%, and five points of Spirit Resist to a maximum 45%; Melee Resist does not increase.

History and commands

On June 30, 2026 bounty changed from 116 + 1.16/min to 100 + 2/min and the flying-orb share rose from 40% to 50%. May 28 changed parry behavior and fixed excess Medic Pack healing. October 5 fixed Troopers walking too slowly. With sv_cheats 1, the source gives npc_create [unit_name|npc_class_name] [optional name] [optional addon type] [optional addon name], with examples trooper_melee and trooper_nano. Unused Jetpack and siege models exist; before Old Gods, New Blood both teams used candle-shaped Troopers.
