Overview

Rem’s motivation in the ritual is to find a way back to his home.^[1][2]

Biography

As a creature from the dream world, Rem’s exact species is unknown.^[3][4] Most characters don’t seem to know what Rem is, although Krill calls Rem a familiar.^[5] Whatever Rem is, he molts.^[6]

Rem is a child,^[7][8] and exhibits childlike characteristics.^[9][10] Rem can’t read and doesn’t understand what big words like "nuance" or "sarcastic" mean.^[11][12][13] According to the Patrons, Rem has a family back home who misses him.^[14]

Rem can see people’s dreams when they’re asleep. This allows him to learn information he wouldn’t normally know, such as how to speak Ixian,^[15] that Mo wants to audit a pottery class,^[16][17] or Yamato‘s true name.^[18]

Rem brought his lucky pillow to the ritual.^[19]

Personality

As a child, Rem is curious and wondrous.^[20][21] He’s very blunt when talking about people,^[22][23] and isn’t interested in why other people are in the ritual if their reasoning is boring.^[24] Rem hopes that his allies will become his friends for life and shows a lot of care for them.^[25][26][27] Enemy heroes often think Rem is cute and feel bad about hurting him.^[28]

Rem seems to be perpetually tired.^[29][30] He feels lost and wants to go home,^[31][32] partially so he can sleep some more.^[33] Rem loves sleeping and claims to be the best at it.^[34]

Rem calls the Lil Helpers his "friends" and gets them to do things he’s too lazy to do.^[35][36]

Rem often comments on what other characters smell like.^[37][38][39] Rem thinks shoes are stupid.^[40]

Appearance

Rem is a small biped furry creature with the proportions of a human toddler. His body is covered in black fur. He has a short beak for a mouth, large round fully white eyes, and tall cat-like ears, the inside of which is purple with a drifting star pattern.

He has 4-fingered hands, his feet are digitigrade paws with 3 toes, and he has a long thin tail ending in a tuft of fur. He wears pyjamas consisting of a jacket and a cone hat with a blue, pink and purple wavy stripes pattern, with patches on the back of the jacket. He carries his blue lucky pillow and a golden pocket watch with a crescent moon pendant.

His weapon is a blue-green candle from which he shoots wispy projectiles.

The Lil Helpers are smaller spherical creatures who, like Rem, have black fur, big round white eyes, tall ears, and a cone hat. They have flat feet.

Rem’s hybrid anatomy of bird and mammal resembles that of a wingless Griffin or Keythong in ancient mythology.

Information

Rem’s name references Rapid Eye Movement, a unique and active phase of sleep in which most dreaming occurs.

Haze

Haze and Rem are friends.^[41][42][43] Haze promised to help Rem get home and dislikes him fighting in the ritual due to the dangers.^[44][45]

Rem calls Haze his "mom".^[46]

Rem sees Haze when he sleeps and claims that "she’s him".^[47][48]

Rem seems to have caused Haze some trouble prior to the ritual,^[49] but how the two met and how they know each other is currently unknown.
