Role Guides

Deadlock Roles Explained: How to Find Your Job in the Team Deadlock roles describe what you contribute to a situation, not a permanent class assigned to your hero. A gun carry provides weapon pressure, a spirit carry threatens with ability damage, an initiator creates an opening, a frontliner makes space, an assassin looks for an isolated target, and a support helps allies act safely. One player […] How to Play Gun Carry in Deadlock A gun carry contributes weapon damage when the team can turn it into pressure, a won fight, or an objective. Your job is to earn souls without missing important fights, arrive with a useful firing angle, shoot a target you can reach safely, and stay alive long enough to keep contributing. Gun carry describes a […] How to Play Spirit Carry in Deadlock A spirit carry builds around ability-driven damage and makes it matter at the right moment. Your job is to prepare a useful casting angle, use setup and damage when a target can be hit, and survive the response so you can contribute again. Some builds favor a short burst; others apply damage over time or […] How to Initiate Fights in Deadlock An initiator creates an opening that teammates can use: catching an exposed enemy, interrupting an approach, or forcing opponents away from a contested area. A good initiation is not simply the first ability cast. It has a reachable target, allies who can follow, and a plan for what happens if the enemy responds. Starting contact […] How to Play Frontline and Create Space in Deadlock A frontliner holds a useful position under pressure so teammates can move, deal damage, protect an objective, or retreat. Your job is not to collect the largest damage-taken number: it is to make an area difficult for enemies to use while staying close enough to help your team. Frontline is a responsibility, not a permanent […] How to Find Picks and Play Assassin in Deadlock An assassin looks for a vulnerable opponent, creates a brief advantage, and survives long enough for the team to use it. A pick is an opportunity to catch or eliminate an enemy who cannot easily be helped. The goal is not a high solo-kill count: a pick is most useful when it protects an ally, […] How to Support Your Team in Deadlock Supporting your team means helping an ally complete a useful action: survive an attack, hold a route, reach a target, or escape a lost fight. Healing is one way to do that; timely control, damage, positioning and utility can matter just as much. Support is a responsibility rather than a fixed hero class. Your hero’s […]

Role Guides

A role describes a job within a team, not a fixed instruction for every moment of a match. Browse the available sections for Assassin, Frontliner, Gun Carry, Initiator, Spirit Carry and Support.

Choose the responsibility you want to understand

Each role section is a starting point for positioning, responsibilities and common decisions. Compare what you need to accomplish with what your teammates can follow up on. A role label alone cannot tell you which target is reachable or whether a particular fight is worth taking.

Connect roles to heroes and builds

Once you have a responsibility in mind, use hero guides for individual game plans and build guides for purchase decisions. Return to the role overview when you want to compare the jobs a team needs rather than the details of one hero.
