Night Shift and 1Win add a third ban, with two ban rounds before the first picks
The revised draft moves more bans ahead of the opening picks as teams adapt to a larger hero roster.
Deadlock Night Shift and 1Win have adopted a draft format with three bans per team. Two ban rounds now take place before either side begins picking heroes, as EDL reported on October 25.
Under the previous format, three pick rounds separated the two ban rounds. The new order lets teams remove more priority heroes before either lineup starts taking shape. EDL describes it as the first format change since December 2024, when Deadlock had 22 playable heroes. That roster has since doubled to 44.
More decisions before lineups emerge
An additional early ban gives teams another way to deny an uncomfortable matchup or a priority pick. They must make that choice before seeing their opponents’ opening selections, putting more weight on preparation and predictions. That is an implication of the draft order; its effect on results has yet to be established.
The change follows the release of six heroes in City Never Sleeps. EDL’s 15-day snapshot before the announcement placed
Baba and
Solomon at the top for both first bans and overall bans.
Violet was another priority at DLNS #61. Those figures describe the period before the rule change.
The first Night Shift champions under the new format are Leviathan in Europe and Melee Creeps in North America. Their wins alone do not show whether the extra ban favored either team. That will require a broader comparison of drafts and match results.
